Equal Marriage in Scotland

I am thankful that the Scottish Parliament has agreed to the principles of the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Scotland) Bill and voted ‘yes’ today (98-15). Let’s now hope that the amendments at Stage 2 don’t change the spirit of the bill too much!

Still, I look forward to legally marrying my wife in a few years.

  1. Hello,
I hope you won’t have to wait for years…In France the “mariage pour tous” (wedding for all) was voted this summer and it took just a few months after that for gays and lesbians to be able to get married. Now it’s already possible.
It was a big fight, though, with a lot of demonstrations of each side. In Britain there is no serious opponents to this bill, as far as I know. Even the conservative parti was open minded on this subject.
    Cheer up !

    • Hi Pivoine,

Yes, it was interesting reading about the French approach to the marriage bill/law.

The Scottish Bill is in its first stage and the second stage will focus on the details of the written document…not being signed into law until 2014. Once it is signed in during 2015, it will then come into effect in 2015.

Not very quick, but not too long when we know the Parliament has supported it!
