Open Hearts with Strangers

In my daily life, I don’t often get the chance to talk to people who seem different from me. Professionals I encounter through work are in the equalities or children & young people sectors and I know some basic things that we’ll all hold true.

Over the past month, as I’ve relied on taxis to get around, I’ve had 10-20 minute conversations with people I may never encounter again. I opened my side of the connection for something deeper than chit chat and was nearly always met with opening hearts.

The human joys that have stayed with me include a grandfather talking lovingly about his grandkids, a 29-year old excited about the upcoming surprise his girlfriend organised outdoors for his 30th birthday, and man in his 40s talking about his experience of the care system and being adopted as an older child.

Human vulnerability and connection; this world could never have too much of the beauty it creates.
