My current garden goals are:
1. Focus on habitat creation (including more plant biodiversity) and soil-building gardening practices
2. Increase our home grown food supply year on year (with abundance to share produce, seeds and propagated plants)
3. Increase the percentage of perennial foods grown each year.
4. Build and maintain seed and cutting supplies to further cultivate our land, and to share locally adapted plants in the community.
With these goals in mind, I inventoried our garden in 2020. Since the plants are split between several different growing patches, they do not all benefit from one another’s presence, but I’ve tried to build the layers in each area. We lost our gorgeous sycamore tree in a storm several years ago (it’s now a pile of logs and sticks for wildlife) and the two fruit trees are in pots, so only the shrub layer and down are directly in the soil.
